From David Downing: Life update and what I’m working on now

Hi there,

If we haven’t talked in a while, or if this is showing up from an unfamiliar email, quick heads up: it’s David Downing. I wanted to share a quick life update and a new chapter I’m excited about.

👨‍👩‍👦 Family Update

In 2024, I sold ChipMonk Baking, the healthy cookie company I co-founded back in 2019.

A lot of big changes:
• My business partner moved out of state
• My first son, Owen, was born
• And I stepped back to figure out what came next

I’m still living in Houston, happily married to my amazing wife Michelle, and we’re expecting our second son, Theo, this September. I’m learning what “dad life” is all about. It’s challenging, but it’s also brought more joy and meaning than I ever expected.

💼 Career Update: Business Brokering

After the sale, I did some consulting work in finance and strategy. Over time, I found myself drawn to a role that felt like a natural fit:

Helping people buy and sell small businesses.

Today, I work with First Choice Business Brokers, one of the largest business brokerage networks in the country. I focus on transactions here in Texas, helping owners exit and buyers find the right opportunity.
